(Lesson 5 Chinese Restaurant)

English
Jiaxing and Jiaqí grew to love eating Chinese food more and more as they studied Chinese. They heard that the Chinese restaurant “Old Sichuan” near their school was very famous, so they decided to give it a try. As soon as they arrived at Old Sichuan, Jiaxing already felt hungry. They told the waiter that they wanted to eat Sichuan dishes that were both numbing and spicy.
The waiter spoke to them in Chinese, but they felt the waiter spoke too quickly, so they asked her to speak a bit more slowly. In the end, they ordered Mapo Tofu, Pickled Fish, and also a bowl of Hot and Sour Soup. After finishing the meal, the waiter asked them how the food tasted. They just nodded without saying a word. It turned out they were used to eating spicy food, but not to eating dishes that were both “numbing and spicy.”
